Here until the lights go out

Given the current international climate, many LJ users are deciding whether to stay or decamp for other platforms. Almost all of my friends left this site years ago when it first changed hands into foreign ownership. The concern back then was data skimming and identity mining by hackers, and later the concern switched to political censorship and banning of LGBT2Q content. These issues never really manifested in the English-speaking part of this platform, but everyone has the right to make their own choices.

Now, users are discussing alliances. LJ is Russian-owned and this poses a problem for many - me included. In this conflict, I stand behind Ukraine without reservation. I'm not interested in listening to counter-arguments or trying to understand what Putin is doing. I don't give a shit about his motives - this is just plain evil.

Despite this position, I am choosing to keep this blog, and here's why. I paid a one-time fee to permanently own this blog almost 10 years ago, long before the site was Russian-owned. I do not pay for ANYTHING on this platform - none of my money has ever benefitted the current owners and it never will. Additionally, I have been a member here for over 15 years. That's A LOT of content to either port over and archive on a new platform, or delete entirely. I have documented important things here. I don't want to lose this record. So, given these two facts, I've decided to stay.

I realize that I'm mostly talking to myself on LJ, but if anyone still reads this, I wanted you to be aware of the reasons for this choice. You will have to make your own choices and I wish you courage in making them.

the state of the blythe, politics, stop the world - i wanna get off, fuckity fuck fuck
