The Duck Report - spring and COVID edition

There's good news from the hinterland now that spring in within sight.

Duck Report 19 23rd March 2021

Today was so gorgeous I took the dogs for a walk, clothed in my shorts and a T-shirt (blythe note: insanity, Mother). This weather should bring the garden along. All I can see so far are the heads of crocus and snowdrops, and even they look a little cold. I have made good inroads on the hedge line but I do have a lot of brush and I am not sure I can burn it on the corn field without starting a fire that will spread. I enlisted Michael to help me move the brush on the truck out into the cornfield and we moved about half of it.

Yesterday I started mucking out the sheep pen and only removed a third before I started to ache. I was a little worried as last year I managed the whole thing in one day, but today I finished it off and swept the remaining sand out of the truck bed so I think I am good for a few more years of hard labour. Getting old is definitely not gracious, your body craps out on you, your mind takes a holiday, and your strength seems to evaporate not to mention the crankiness and weird habits you develop (blythe note: oh, Mum... *tears*).

Today we were notified to make appointments for our vaccinations. I accomplished the whole thing online in just a couple of minutes. Our first shots will be April 3rd (blythe note: YAAAASSSSSSSS! THANK GOD!).

Duck Report 20 March 28th 2021

Today it is just pouring rain but I managed to get a ride in early before the rain really got going. I am afraid Twix still has congested lungs. He is not coughing any more but his breathing is quite loud if he does more than walk and trot. There is nothing further I can do for him but keep him on the medication.

The shawl I started reached about 30” before I decided I really do hate it and am now I am unraveling the silly thing (blythe note: *eyeroll*). It will now be a short scarf. I hate the colour, texture, weight and pattern, so I guess I really did hate it. I am going to try again with a different pattern and larger needles to make it more open and lacy.

I potted up the peppers, cucumbers, butternut squash and leeks, but as yet I have not tackled the indigo though it is going well under the lights. The parsley just has not germinated and as I recall it refused to germinate last year so maybe I have some poor seed. I shall have to buy a plant.
