2016 is officially the worst year since 2010

On Tuesday, Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip announced that he has terminal brain cancer. He's only 52, has 4 kids, and likely has decades of songs left in him, but he probably won't make it another year. Despite that, he and The Hip are going on tour this summer and the news has been met - nationally - with love and a lot of smiling and nodding because Gord would totally do that. Gord Downie and The Hip are almost considered a national treasure after 30 years of weirdness. Though I'm not a rabid fan, The Hip's catalogue has been the background to many of my better memories from my 20s and 30s. It's hard to imagine that he won't be around much longer. So many Canadian bands would count The Hip as a seminal influence... it's mind boggling.
So, play on, Gord. Kick that diagnosis right in the teeth and spin around on stage a lot before you leave us.
