February is supposed to be a positive month here so I promised that I'd keep the ranting to a minimum, but...
Dear fic reader/commenter,
I really appreciate the criticism. No, really... I do. Fawning accolades aren't what I'm about and I like to hear about other points of view - no joke. But did you have to pick the first thing I ever wrote to get your knickers in a twist over? Honestly, that story is so bad I can't even reread it, and it is ten bloody years old. I will not go back and alter it at this point otherwise I'll be editing and re-editing my shit until the end of time. I'm sorry if you felt the last chapter destroyed the story and that you were hoping for a more positive (perhaps romantic?) ending, but you might be reading in the wrong fandom if 'Happily Ever After' is your goal. Also, the M. Night Shyamalan dig was kinda a low blow.
In short, I'm sorry that you were disappointed, but not exactly surprised. I'm a little more amazed that you think I'll do something about it RIGHT NOW. I would've loved to have rocketed into fandom being fully formed and brilliant and having completely unassailable ideas that no fan would dare question, but that's just ridiculous. I can't even manage that now. I wrote a sad story, and even though it was simultaneously a BAD story, the thing that seemed to tick you off was that it was SAD. Sad was my goal. You didn't object to the shredding of canon or the histrionic dialog or the run-on sentences or the really trite love story, all of which I would've accepted as legitimate criticisms. You objected to the fact that the ending was SAD, which was the one thing I was aiming for and got right. So, I guess... thanks for the comment but you may have missed the point? It would've been much more enjoyable to read a crit of technique or story elements rather than your personal miffed-ness dressed up as a writing evaluation.
Just sayin'.
