Okay pals, here are some Happenings that I feel the need to boost.
Firstly, OTW is doing a donation drive. Those of us who actively use, surf, or lurk on AO3 realize what fantastic work OTW does, but the funds raised also go to their legal fund (to help fanwork creators deal with copyright issues etc.) as well as their reserves for protecting and archiving fanworks for the future. They are good peeps and do this all as a non-profit so they need our help semi-regularly. All donations are tax-free (to U.S. citizens) and you will get a karmic warm glow if you give them something, even if it's just ten bucks.
Go here to learn how to donate to OTW. Secondly,
mini_wrimo is back again this November. It is a low(er) key way to celebrate the writerly-ness of that month. Honestly, I could never write a novel in a month and
mini_wrimo makes me feel absolutely okay about that - bless them. The deal is that you 1.
JOIN THE COMM, 2.
Sign up with you username and daily wordcount commitment, 3. Show up every day in November and report (honestly) what you've written that day. The daily wordcount commitment can be as low as 100 words, and the wordage can count towards anything - blog posts, tweets, fics, dirty limericks etc. You wouldn't believe the tremendous feeling of accomplishment that this comm provides. I encourage all of my writing pals to give it a whirl - like I said, it's really low key.
Finally, October is Monster Month over at
ushobwri, which for those who don't know, is the replacement comm for the late, lamented wrisomifu (
here's the profile page). It is a fabulous, year-round writing comm with amazing little festivals like the Monster Month etc. (ALL MONSTERS, ALL MONTH! WHAT COULD BE BETTER?!?) It is a locked community but we are always taking on new members, so if you want to hang out with some great, creative, supportive folks (with no pressure... NO PRESSURE!) and do fun shit, go and join so that we can whine about how hard writing/drawing/vidding is together ;)
