A catch-up meme stolen from
umadoshi:
So what have you been up to? / Major life changes? Same old same old?
I pretty much spent the summer fretting, which as we all know, is completely pointless. But what can I say? I'm amazing at it >:/ I'm still adjusting to working from home, and I'm trying to figure out how to balance a reasonable amount of stress with the things that keep me happy. It's a work in progress but I'm optimistic about it. I've also kept at writing and drawing, which usually falls by the wayside when the blurgleweegsnazzer has me in its grip. So, YAY ME!
What fandom are you in/do you spend most of your time in?
My primary fandom is still Criminal Minds. Last season renewed my hope (a little) in the show, so I'm still in it. But I also actively participate in the Supernatural fandom now (just here on LJ - I can't face it on other platforms). In addition, I occasionally create works for Person of Interest, Sherlock, and the late, lamented Forever, but I don't actively participate with fans in those fandoms.
Where do you hang out online?
Just here and over on AO3. All of my creative stuff ends up at
my AO3 account eventually, though I wouldn't exactly qualify it as a 'hang out' because interaction is limited.
What are you reading?
I started reading Blackout by Connie Willis and then realized that it's part one of a mini series. So I guess I'll have to read All Clear next. I'm amazed at her complete lack of description in her novels. It blows me away because that seems like a big, lazy, writer no-no, and yet I love it because it allows my imagintion to INVENT a ton of character detail and world building. Huh, weeeeiiird...
What are you watching?
Currently, sense8 on Netflix. I just finished Narcos (weird idea for an American-targeted tv show because the WHOLE THING is in Spanish), season 3 of The Newsroom (I was underwhelmed), the latest seasons of The Fall and Penny Dreadful (GIVE. ME. MORE.), season 3 of Banshee (why everyone isn't watching this and talking about it I cannot fathom), and waiting for season 3 of Hannibal to come to Netflix. Oh, and
synap and I watched 9 seasons of Bones as our summer project - somewhere in season 6 I lost interest when it originally aired but I got curious about what happened there again.
What are you making?
Well, I recently finished two WIPs (
here and
here), but that's just the last two weeks. I'm also working on stories involving a) time jumps, b) soulbonding, c) extreme synesthesia (influenced by Alfred from X Company), and d) tentacles, natch. I'm randomly drawing things, both for me and for others, and I have signed up for the
spn_reversebang and haven't freaked out about the pack of artists I've placed myself in with that decision yet.
What are you squeeing about today?
Ummm, a break in the humidity? Actually, I'm squeeing about finding a fic series that I'm enjoying (it involves Sentinels and Guides, which is a trope that I know little about). It's just fucking great to be reading something I didn't write for once. The sense of surprise is delightful :)
If you could rope old fandom friends into a new fandom, it would be...
I haven't been in a ton of fandoms, but I guess that if I could rope more SPN fen into Criminal Minds so I could get more crossover fics to feed my inner fan-beast, I'd do that. I'd love it if there was more of a supernatural-horror bent to CM, and I'd love to read the conflicts between CM characters (FBI agents) and Sam and Dean (basically, felons). Some of this already exists, but not enough. Also, I'd love it if more people were into Hannibal - I feel like I can squee about that show with a grand total of TWO people.
What else is on your mind?
In general? I miss fandom conversations. It's an old gripe - fandom has moved to Tumblr and Twitter and it has been blurred with meta qualities and Real Person interactions that disturb me. I miss just hanging out and talking about the characters I love. I miss intelligent commentary to fanworks. Basically, modern fandom makes me feel increasingly like that old man who lives down the street and yells at passing cars. I also miss the politeness of agreeing to disagree about something in a fandom. We used to be nicer to each other about that and some fans make me want to reach through my monitor and slap a bitch for their rude entitlement. If you would never say something directly to someone's face, you shouldn't type it out and hide behind web anonymity imagining yourself as being boldly forthright. Manners maketh the fan...
