Scratch A Pessimist & Discover A Sentimental Optimist

Christmas advertising can get a girl down.

I have VERY FIRMLY ENTRENCHED Christmas ideas, and Black Friday Blow-Out Sales or crassly object-focused ads don't pass muster at all. Considering the financial crisis that most middle and lower class people have experienced over the last few years, I find Christmas advertising to be deeply insensitive and detached from reality. Also, it's November, people! Jeez...

Anyway, I found a link to U.K. shopping chain John Lewis's new Christmas ad. It's kind of a tradition to produce a sentimental, touching ad each year, from what I gather. This year's really got to me because it isn't about buying loads of crap and it reminds me of those animated specials from my childhood:

*sniffles* I'm having Green Forest and Watership Down flashbacks right now...

This was last year's ad (which is less cute and also has a delicate cover of an over-the-top Frankie Goes To Hollywood love song):

All I'm saying is... I'd like more love and tradition (whatever that might be for you) in Christmas, and less stuff. In the long run, do any of us really remember the stuff anyway?

oh come on!, nicer places than here, animals, youtube, video, holiday, this is why we can't have nice things, animation, christmas, shopping
