An Email That I Probably Shouldn't Have Sent

Jul 11, 2012 13:36

Someone from the Alumnae Office of my high school sent me an email on Monday asking to get an updated mailing address to send various information packages to. This was the response that I sent back:

Hello Ms. [poor sap tasked with emailing dead addresses for the Alum office],

I would be happy to share my current address with the Alumnae Office if I ever received anything from it other than pleas for donations or invitations to PAID Alumnae events.

I enjoyed my seven years at B**** immensely, and the lessons learned there have left me in good stead for many challenges in my life beyond those hallowed walls. However, I'm pretty sure that the near $150,000 that my parents paid in tuition (not adjusted for inflation of course) should just about cover my gratitude. Since the faculty, traditions, and even the facilities itself have changed so much in the near twenty years since I graduated, it seems a bit ludicrous to keep asking me to financially contribute to an institution that I no longer recognize and cannot benefit from in any tangible way. B**** made high school as bearable as possible to a rebellious teenager, but its over now.

I realize that these form emails are just part of your job and I thank you for your inquiry. BH will always be able to pester me via email, and that should be enough.

All the best,
Blythe

You can take the sarcastic girl from the institution, but, apparently, NOTHING can take the sarcasm from the girl...

rant, bad idea?, school, letter
