Not that it makes it any better, but I think it's more a matter of this being a side effect of a larger long-standing military conflict.

Unfortunately, the number of Russian/Eastern European LJ users is large enough that it was worth it for a Russian company to buy it. Yey, outsourcing...

I don't really give a shit about the majority of LJ's user base, their political leanings, or the conflict in their shared history. I am a user too. Russian bots, hackers, and epic spammers have been sabotaging this site since it was sold. LJ's recent appearance on several spam lists - leading to it's email notifications ban by several providers - was a direct result of not taking aggressive action to curb this 'usage' of the site by said bots/hackers/spammers. They take the site down when it doesn't interfere with their Russian users' schedules. They update 'enhancements' that don't work/compromise security/are a pain in the ass to opt out of. They don't address individual users' problems in a timely or efficient manner. Dealing with LJ is becoming more trouble than it is worth. I've been denied access to my account on and off for nearly 2 days now. At one point today, LJ told me that my blog didn't exist and then denied me access to their general home page so that I could contact someone. Enough already. LJ needs to get their house ( ... )

Oh, I agree - unfortunately, I think even with all the stupid crap that's gone on since LJ sold, it's still the best game in town for the majority of its users, so the owners have no reason to pull their heads out of their asses. :-/
