Goodbye Duke's On Queen, Preloved, National Sound, and Suspect Video Queen Street. All were claimed by fire yesterday morning (allegedly due to an exploded meth lab out back...). Duke's was gutted - the building isn't even there anymore, just a big smoldering hole - Nat'l. Sound, Preloved and Suspect were so damaged that they'll have to knock the buildings down. Duke's was fully stocked for spring, which is a shame, but I'm sure that they had insurance, and since the business has been around for 4 generations, I'm sure that they'll come back. Suspect has other locations, so they might just give up on Queen St. Who knows about Nat'l. Sound or Preloved...
Last night was the lunar eclipse (which I missed due to hunger), but on the way home I got off the streetcar and communed with ma Sister a bit. Cancerians' ruling "planet" is the Moon, which is a once cool and slightly shifty. Shifty because it ain't a planet, or even a "planetet" like Pluto as
minouette calls it, - it's just debris. However, she is beautiful when she is round and full and low, and she has inspired many an artist over the centuries, and she effects the tides... I find it fitting that she belongs to me (so to speak). Though her glory is actually the refected luminousity of another, and her surface is cold, barren, and devoid of life, I find it comforting that she has silently watched over men's plans since we crawled out of the ooze. No matter what happens, she's always there....watching, distant and serene. Her constancy calms me. How many people have turned their faces towards hers and asked for guidance? The history of this little rock has unfolded under her silent gaze and will continue to do so until our solar system bites the celestial bullet, and she will be there until the end. Y'all can have your planets, I'll keep Sister Moon for myself.
Today is shaping up into another unreasonable workday, so I'm just gonna think about the Moon and stop drinking so much coffee. Tomorrow is figure drawing - something to look forward to.
