Snow Bound

I haven't really bothered with too much creative work this week (though I have been making blackout poems like a mad fiend), because I've been running around like crazy pulling stuff together for me to be able to fly up to Alaska tomorrow at 6:30 a.m. Virtually my whole family and I are going up to celebrate my grandma's 80-somethingth birthday, as well as Thanksgiving.

Mostly I've been trying to pull together whatever warm clothes I have in the hopes that I don't freeze my ass off up there. I haven't been up to Alaska in the middle of winters since ... oh, possibly since I was in elementary school. It's been a hell of a long time, and I'm sure all this mild California weather has made me soft. I'm sure my being very, very cold is an inevitability here, because even though I have some snow stuff, I know that Lake Tahoe cold is going to be very different from Alaska cold.

But it's going to be a blast. We have plans to go ice skating on a lake, visit some of the local bars that my parents used to frequent as youngsters, and visit old nostalgic locals (like the house we used to live in that was across the street from a park over looking the inlet. I'm sure my family will ski, while I find a way to go sledding. There will definitely be dark nights and turkey and birthday cake (and okay, some familial dysfunctionality, too). There may even be moose sightings. (o.O)

It should be a very good time.  :D
