I love meeting people who have done amazing things. For example, Joe Galloway came into our journalism class this quarter.
Joe Galloway has been a war correspondent since Vietnam. He went to Vietnam as a reporter four times and each time he journeyed right alongside the soldiers and was in the thick of battle. He's probably most well known for his book, "We Were Soldiers Once and Young," which was made into a movie.
The man just had the most incredible stories to tell. He knew Harry Truman, who was his mentor. And he has so many war stories. He won a medal for helping to save the lives of soldiers in combat. He's one of two civilian reporters, I believe, who have ever been awarded such a medal. And those are not even half of the stories he could tell.
He told these stories with such poetry and passion and humility. Several times I began to cry while he was speaking, and I think the rest of the class was moved as well. I was really honored to have been able to meet him and hear him speak.
