Riding in the sleek black limousine, Junsu sat stiff wanting to make the best impression possible. Changmin smiled at the other with lazy adoration.

‘He really is too adorable for his own good.’

They arrived within minutes and climbed out of the car and were hurried into the elevator.

“You will start work as soon as possible, is that okay?”

Junsu nodded nervously as they exited the elevator into a starch white lab attached to an extensive greenhouse that Junsu thought he would faint at the sight of.

“Yah! HyukJae, would be these my two new assistants?”

“Changmin, Junsu, this is Doctor Hankyung, he’s who you’ll be working under.”

“It’s nice to meet you…”Junsu said, “ Please treat us kindly.”

He grinned at the shy boy and his eyes drifted up to Changmin in shocked wonder.

Don’t say a word.

You’d better have a good explanation.

“Come on, I’ll show you around before we go up to meet the boss-“

“Actually Hankyung, he’s coming down here.” Hyukjae said with a dastardly smile.

Changmin’s heart skipped a beat. Two hundred years ago he would have felt Yunho’s approach in his blood… he couldn’t even sense the other in the building.

‘I guess it’s true… it’s broken.’

The way it should be.

“Come on, I’ll show you around.”

They walked around behind the lab as Hyukjae retrieved their ID tags for lab entrance and other things they’d need to work there.

“Last but not least, my favorite part of the lab, the greenhouse.”

The door opened and the world stopped.

There sitting in a sleek black Armani suit that fit him oh too well on top of the ladder nestled in the middle of the lily vines, the man he’d left: Jung Yunho.

Everything was the same, the exact same. He hadn’t changed a bit. His eyes still held that deep unhappiness that came with being incomplete. Those same hands that had played his body like a harp, the lips that tortured him into a sweet madness… all the same.

His face flushed as that old connection, now within range, began to pulse, when the other’s head snapped up their eyes met, he knew he felt it too.

Yunho thought he’d lose his mind seeing Changmin there. The same, the same, the same.

‘He’s alive…but then why?’

“Yunho, why didn’t you tell me you were down here? We would’ve came sooner.” HanKyung greeted, “ These are the two interns from the university… Kim Junsu and Shim Changmin.”

Yunho looked at them both, the angel from that morning and his first love, together, from the same university? It seemed like fate loved him enough to bring him back.

“Jung Yunho, C.E.O. but you’ll forget that pretty soon.”

“Yunho has a very interesting philosophy on the staff here…”

‘We’re family…’ Changmin thought reading the other’s expression, staring at him with an intense curiosity and rage.

Where have you been?

None of your business…

It is my business I-

It’s broken. Leave it.

For how much longer are you going to runaway from me?

…Forever.

Yunho bit his lip and slapped on a smile for the confused and innocent Junsu. He knew he’d missed something he just didn’t know what it was. There was something going on way above his head that he could barely see, not just figuratively either.

“Welcome to the family, “ Yunho said shaking his hand with a politicians smile.

Junsu’s eyes widened at the depth of those eyes. Depth of sorrow, loneliness… the knowledge… it was breath taking.

‘Just like… Changmin…’

Yunho shook Changmin’s hand with little to no reservation and stepped back from the two.

“I’ll let you get back to your tour. Make sure to bring them up to my office okay?” Yunho said slapping Hankyung on the arm and leaving the greenhouse.

Junsu noticed the tense silence and chose to break it with forward footsteps towards the troves of flowers growing in the greenhouse.

“It’s amazing…”

“State of the art everything, it makes it easier to take care of the plants when we’re testing…”

“Wah~, so what will we be doing?”

“That depends… on what needs to be done… You’ll probably be with the R&D; team for new scents. But that’s beside the point. Hyukjae will tell you all the specifications of you working here. How about we go see what the big man upstairs has to say to you ,hm?”

They nodded and followed Hankyung to the elevator. With every floor Changmin felt his blood pressure rise, his heart was pounding out of his chest. He couldn’t afford to be alone with that man… not again… He just couldn’t face it.

Those eyes… those eyes shrouded- no made of darkness, the darkness eyes he had loved so much would lash out at with all the intensity of the sun and all the fire of hell, breaking him into submission until he was mewling in pleasure and need at the man’s feet. Only when it was too much, only when Changmin was ready to die from the sensations would Yunho stroke his hair, tell him it was alright, and pry all of Changmin’s secrets from him…

Like taking candy from an infant.

He couldn’t have that, wouldn’t have that, and would be condemned even more than he was now if he would succumb to the instincts the reared their ugly head.

He refused to give in… It would hurt too much in the end.

The elevator stopped at they approached Yoona who looked up in shock at the pair. Changmin in recognition and Junsu in awe.

“These are the interns, Yunho wanted to have a word with them?”

“Y-Yes… One at a time he… instructed me to send Junsu in first and then you can go home.”

‘Divide and conquer huh? He hasn’t lost his touch at all…’ Changmin took a seat beside her desk as Junsu walked into the office and Hankyung sat next to him.

“You know he’s been looking for you.”

“I know.”

“You know he’ll be furious,” Yoona added in.

“I know.”

“Have you lost your mind? Do you know what your disappearance has done to him?” Hankyung asked worrying.

Remembering the first year after Changmin disappeared… they thought Yunho was going to turn himself to ash from not eating, not sleeping, refusing to feed anymore than needed to survive… the days past long and slowed to a crawl as they watch their Prince slowly, very slowly, become more dead by the second… emotionally, physically, mentally… he had to be removed, Yoochun put in his place until his health was better… until he could move again…

“I know.”

“So why didn’t you come back?”

“It’s complicated.”

They sighed knowing they would get nothing else from the elven-vampire and sighed. They only that Yunho’s temperament was towards relief rather than rage….

I doubt it…’Hankyung glanced at the stoic male beside him, ‘ It’s going to be one ugly battle…

-

Junsu thought he was going to burst into flames under that dark gaze.

“Have a seat Junsu…” The man said from across from him.

He did so and looked the other older. He couldn’t have been more than a year or two older than him by looks and smiled.

“I read your file and I have to say I’m impressed.”

“T-Thank you sir.”

Yunho smiled, that smile…so much like Changmin’s… so much like an ancient knowing that enveloped him at night sometimes when Jaejoong would hold him after a nightmare.

So much like home… as there was something he was missing in his life.

Yunho could read the nervous little quirks of Junsu sitting across from him and recognized something interesting about him. He was… soft… maybe not just emotionally but he radiated a type of sweetness and purity that belonged to only a certain class of being: angels.

Junsu shook his wayward thoughts away not wanting to lose concentration when his boss was talking to him.

“There’s no need to be so formal. We’re family here…. Call me Yunho.”

“But you’re older than me…”

“Would it make you feel better if you called me hyung then?”

Junsu nodded.

“Okay,” Yunho obliged, “ You seem to be a straightforward person… if you’re in need of anything… please don’t hesitate to ask me, hm? Dongsaeng…”

He shivered in side as that word rolled of his tongue like the slickest of oils. That word that should have been as platonic held a dark promise in it… he wanted so badly to know more… he wanted to badly to know what this aura was coming from the other, but nodded instead.

“ Great, you can leave if you wish and Hankyung will brief you on the details… if you could send Changmin in…”

Junsu nodded, bowed and left the room still shivering from the dark caress that encircled the room. He followed Hankyung down the hall and received a folder of stuff from him. Forms he had to fill out.

Walking out of the building and looking back up, he wondered if there was something at work more than what it seemed…

He shrugged, it was probably just his imagination.

-

Changmin steeled himself to entire Yunho’s office and pushed it open walking in and avoiding the questioning and hurt gaze.

“Take a seat.”

“I’ll stand.”

“Take a seat,” Yunho repeated turning on the automatic locking mechanism to his office door.

“I’ll stand,” Changmin replied again through gritted teeth that semi-cloaked his nerves.

Standing in this man’s presence, defying him, he could feel his power and influence encircling him. His based instincts as a beta made him want to get down on his knees and nuzzle Yunho, fall into his arms and bare his neck- he shut those instincts off with logic.

But even his logic was betraying him.

“Take.A.Seat.” Yunho repeated, just as evenly, softer.

Changmin knew the difference: he was getting irritated with him.

He took the seat Junsu had occupied only moments before and they sat in a rushing and speaking silence.

Yunho asked, Changmin refused to answer.

“Where have you been all this time?”

“Away from you.”

Yunho blinked at the abrupt cold he sensed from Changmin and narrowed his eyes.

“There is something… you are not telling me I take it.”

“Nothing that concerns you.”

Changmin avoided the other’s gaze at all cost, fearing that his inner walls would crash and crumble and he’d be in Yunho’s arms again begging the other to claim him again and tell him that there was still a spot for him at his side.

Damn that half-bind.

“Changmin, you will tell me eventually… You know that.”

“I have nothing to say to you. What we had was exactly that something we had-“

“Then why are you shaking?”

Changmin’s eyes widened and he glanced down at his trembling hands. They only did that when his mate was near. When Yunho was angry with him… when he wanted him more than anything.

He stood with a start and went to the door attempting to open the unyielding door and gasped as it burned his hand.

Lithisteel: what a dirty trick.

“You planned this?” Changmin asked.

Yunho stood behind him.

“I planned for a lot of things…” Yunho started leaning his lean and strong body against his desk.

“A family… a home… a life of eternity with you, Yoochun and whoever else we may choose… “

Changmin bit his lip and hated himself for allowing those soft words to get to him.

“You knew this… you knew this from the start and yet… you disappeared…for 200 years… without a word.”

“I have nothing to say to you.”

“Why? Why can’t you tell me?! We thought you died on the battlefield! We thought… We thought we’d lost you forever… Don’t you care?! Don’t you care about Yoochun and how he felt?! How I felt when you ripped our bond? When I couldn’t feel you anymore…”

Changmin refused to speak and gasped feeling Yunho’s arms wrap around him, subduing him in silence, resting his head on his shoulder.

“Minnie~…” He breathed, in haling his scent and breathing out against Changmin’s neck.

Changmin shivered as the scent engulfed his sense. Dark chocolate and wine: Yunho’s scent… he’d always smelled that way… He remembered the first night of running from the battle field. He’d spilled a bottled of wine on his bed and opened a jar of dark chocolate, closing all openings, to suffuse himself in that scent… He remembered crying as the scents faded and he was going through a painful withdrawl all over again…

“Don’t…”

“Come home , Minnie.”

“No…”

“We can talk about it… whatever it is…”

“No.”

“Minnie~…”

“NO!”

He pushed the other away escaping that scent again, the promise, the warmth and throwing himself back into an age long pain.

“It’s over! It’s broken! Leave it that way! Let me out!” He yelled, feeling the lithisteel’s energy valence all around the office.

He wouldn’t be able to teleport out surrounded by it… especially not injured. He that and felt it’s effects overwhelm him bit by bit. He was getting weaker by the minute.

Yunho sighed, he’d left him no choice. Swiftly, faster than Changmin had ever remembered him being, he was up against the wall pressed between Yunho and the wall. His lips attacked by a rushed kiss, and he was hostage to that searing touch he so longed for.

Oh god, what had he done?

Despite the lithisteel laced office, that should have disabled all magic and rendered them human, Yunho’s power erupted and overpowered him easily. Being in the office for eight hours a day must have made him able to overcome its effects and become as strong as he was now.

That strength, that strength was engulfing him, killing him, shining, destroying him, crushing him: he wanted it to never end.

He cried out helplessly, somewhere between and anxious moan and scream when Yunho stepped back and allowed him to fall to his feet. Yunho unlocked and demagnetized the door as Changmin sat crumbled to the ground. Panting in desperation, surprise, and need.

“You may leave… but no matter how long you run from me… I will always find you.”

“W-What?”

“ Because you know your place has always been at my side… more importantly your body knows it as my mate… you can’t deny that your body does not remember me Changmin… You will come home to me Minnie…”

Panting and afraid, Changmin evaporated into mist on the spot and rematerialized on the porch of his home panting, shaking and afraid.

“No…No…NO!” He screamed unleashing his tears as the sky responded to his indecision with a violent storm that engulfed the city.

Yunho watched the sudden storm and felt his lover’s power… He’d gotten stronger he realized and he wished more than anything to go to his weeping Minnie and hold him… but not yet… He wasn’t ready… He had to wait until he was prepared to come back home and love himself again.

Despite what Changmin may have believed, that kiss served for more than a release of 200 years of longing… it gave him an insight into Changmin’s psyche… it gave him a look into his heart that was tearing itself apart in guilt and fear…

What he had to fear and what he was feeling guilty about, Yunho would have to find out.

He exhaled as the storm raged out side and he could hear Changmin’s screaming in the thunder that rolled across the sky.

Yoochun looked out his window and frowned… the voice of thunder was familiar… too familiar for it to be anyone but Changmin… but that was impossible.

Isn’t it?
