Well, you've read more than me. I would do one of these posts, but it would be embarrassing. I've read maybe 3.2 of these books. I'd like to substitute Macbeth for Hamlet also.

Then again, I'm probably a heathen. I read "The Curious Incident..." and didn't see what was so remarkable about it (though it was quite enjoyable).

If they're letting "The Curious Incident..." on there, I'd like to add a book I read recently - "The Art of Racing in the Rain" - which was quite lovely.

My running count is 64 .... and some/many I have read and re-read over the years.

I have to say some never really appealed - I tried one of the early (perhaps the first) Harry Potter books when the nieces and friends children started reading them voraciously. I found them shallow and trite, and made very good movies .... :-)

Of course upbringing may have a great deal to do with it. At home we had no tv, and positively encouraged/driven to the local library to read and borrow books (we all managed to get enhanced borrowers tickets, and use both the childrens library as well as the adult library). A friend who was brought up in New Zealand missed out on many of the kids classics that shaped our/my outlook!

Now maybe that would be as much, if not more interesting: the top say 50 or 100 books read as children up to the age of (say) 15.
