Does anybody have any contacts for this?

So, as you've all probably guessed by now, the Romani experience a great deal of discrimination in Romania.  I get more information about this everyday (and I've only been here two and a half).

Today, I was introduced to a family who particularly needs some help.  This family has six children and no identity papers, no home, and no jobs.  I've been told by Diane that it's very hard for Roma to get jobs due to a mix of racial discrimination in hiring and a high educational drop-out rate.

In this family, one of the daughters, a sixteen year-old, has contracted meningitis and, as a result, a brain tumor.  The problem is that in Romania, you can only access the public health service if you have identity papers.  As I said, they don't.  Therefore, Leti (the director of the program I'm volunteering with) asked me if I could research a way for them to recieve direct donations for her medical costs.  I've never done this sort of fundraising before and am aware of how many people regard this sort of story with suspicion because of the fictional e-mails that circulate.

So, I'm asking for your help.  Does anyone know any information about groups that provide medical financial aid?  Has anyone got links about fundraising?  Does anyone know a person or company who would be interested in donating funds?  And, does anyone have any ideas about getting this request for help out without people seeing it as a scam?

I'm usually one of the people who's suspicious of this sort of thing.  It's so easy to fake on the internet.  That's why I'm not just sending a forwarding e-mail type thing.

I've met this young woman.  She *is* ill.  You can see it in how she holds herself.  I'm not asking anyone on here for donations because I know you're all like me, a student with a lot of expenses and not much extra cash.  What I *am* asking is for any information or contacts you might have so I can find a person or group with the resources to help.

Thanks. ( :

As a side note, I've found that my camera uploads to these computers, so I shall have a picture link pronto.  Annnnd, I won't have to spend a century uploading photos in July. ; )
