With all the crap in the world, parents are worried about gay penguins . . . ?

I decided to poke around in the news this evening (something I should do far more often than I do) and stumbled over these:

Here, here, and here.

Now, I can't say I've read all the books mentioned, but I *have* read "And Tango Makes Three" and it's beautiful, well written and illustrated, and innocent as can be. I have to admit that I feel sort of blown away sometimes that we can still be having debates like this. I mean, I realize that the world is the way it is and am normally not surprised, but sometimes . . .

It's about LOVE people! All the energy that some parents put into "protecting" their darling children from diverse examples of love should be put into addressing bullying in schools or into . . . and my brain just sort of stalls from the sheer number of ways in which that sort of passion could be better employed.

Le sigh.

And in the US, we still have the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. Ergh.

On the plus side, we have people in the media covering this kind of stuff. That's something anyway.
