Sorry about the lack of paragraphs, but I've tried several times to fix it and the darn thing just insists on one big blob of text.
We pretty much played games in class today. It was great fun, but other than a few new ideas to shelve into my memory, it didn't feel particularly useful. In fact, I had an annoying suspicion that it provided the teacher with a day where he didn't have to prepare anything because we did. I didn't mind coming up with a game sequence, but I would have preferred each of us to be given a subject, done some research into methods, etc. I would have liked to feel like more NEW ideas entered my experience this morning. Le sigh.
It all kind of goes along with my general frustration with this half of the course. I did what Ralph asked and narrowed my options for my work placement. Yet, when I went in to see him today, he basically said, "Great. Contact them." I didn't need a meeting with him to know that. He gave me one website (progress!) to check out and to cross-reference with what I found, but no guidance as to how to formulate proposals or how to find more leads. I'm beginning to wonder if I really need to concentrate on South Africa and India since I've seen little of the connections these countries are supposed to offer through him. Why not try for, say, Brazil? I don't think it would make a great deal of difference.
On a more positive note, I signed up for an Introductory Climbing class. It starts mid-February and goes for six weeks. I'm generally trying to be both healthier and more social, so a commitment like that is a step in the right direction. I'm also looking into an Introductory Spanish class, but it's a lot more expensive, so I'm still not sure.
All in all, I've been more successful in leaving my room. I went to an Amnesty International meeting today and am attending a Drama Soc social tonight. The only difficult thing is that the more social and healthy I try to be, the more money I spend (societies and clubs here have a joining fee). Individual costs aren't that huge, but they add up. I'll just have to keep an eye on my account I guess.
I'm glad people enjoyed the pretty snow picture last night, because the fluffy white stuff has rapidly been melting away all day.
Snowmelt
Same view as last night.
