I wonder if perhaps JE feels that without "bad boy" Akanishi, it will be hard to sell K(A)T-TUN as the "rebellious" group, thus the recent image/sound change.
Regardless, I hope JE soon realizes that K(A)T-TUN's fans liked their older sound better than this new sound. Coming from another band I wouldn't mind it as much, but hearing so many pop songs from KAT-TUN is kind of hurting me. Plus, voice distortion makes for crappy lives.
