Things I have done today

Jul 31, 2006 19:46

1. I got up before 7am and went out and cleaned the garage before it got too hot. My garage is very old and far from air tight so the amount of dirt and dust that I had to wade through made cleaning my bedroom seem like a piece of cake. After I got the garage clean I hauled a shitload of stuff out to the curb for the garbagemen to haul away tomorrow. Let's just say that they're going to hate me.

2. After that I was so covered in grit and grime that I had to take a shower. I can deal with sweat, but trying to keep cleaning through all that dirt would have been pointless. Then I started on the bathroom. I have tile on the floor and the grout was definitey dirty so I went so far as to get on my hands and knees with a toothbrush and scrub. I went through all my bathroom stuff and pitched a whole lot of stuff that I thought I couldn't live with at the time I bought it.

3. Dealt with a major catastrophe. The B&B where we were going to eat on Friday only serves to larger groups. Smaller groups like ours are only scheduled when a larger group is going to be there. I understand the idea behind having a minimum, but the larger group canceled so I got a phone call saying that we were SOL on Friday but they could take us the next Thursday. Telling mom was the worst. She was pissed and to be honest it was a bit like dealing with a cranky teenager. I was supposed to call her back and somehow *force* them to serve us. I did my best, but nothing I said would change their mind. Mom wanted to call and bitch at her and thankfully I was able to stop her. I live in a small town and the last thing I need is for it to make the rounds that I'm a bitch thanks to mom and one of her tirades.

4. Spent a couple of hours off and on calming mom down and making alternate arrangements. As of now we're eating here. The meal will be catered. Since I'm feeding six and I only have place settings for four I'm heading off to Pier 1 on Wednesday to look for dishware. Thankfully I have plenty of silverware to use. This is going to mean more work for me, even if I'm not doing the cooking, but mom has calmed down and I think this will make her happy when all is said and done. Although she suggested that I lock the cats out the day before and vacuum really well so they don't have to deal with cat hair. Yeah, right, as if. *g*

Whew...I don't know which is more tiring the emotional trauma or the cleaning.

5. Went back and finished the bathroom. Then I got the linen closet all sparkly clean. Next came the front room, where we'll be eating. I got the buffet table cleaned out and organized and the front closet cleaned out and the dining table pulled out and a bit of furniture rearranged. Other than dusting and vacuuming and setting the table that room is done. Whee!

Things I have left to do:

1. The kitchen and utility room. Both are in reasonably good shape so I should be able to get both done tomorrow.

2. The office. This will be more time consuming, but I figure I can maybe start it tomorrow before I leave for mom's birthday dinner and finish it on Thursday morning.

2. Retouch the living room and dust and vacuum the whole house again.

3. The basement. Something tells me I'll be doing this on Friday morning. *sigh*

I've got someone coming tomorrow to wash windows. I know, I should do them myself, but I'm going to run out of time and I really hate doing windows. Of course, it's supposed to rain on Wednesday, but they'll still look much better.

*yawn* All this cleaning is tiring stuff. It's 7:45pm and I'm wondering if I can stay awake much longer. I may have to go to bed pretty soon which is *really* depressing.

Sorry I haven't had anything fannish to say. ardent_muses said to me today that I should be enjoying the fruits of my cleaning. I told her I'd enjoy it on Saturday after everything was said and done. But really, I'll enjoy it Friday night when I sit down to watch "Sateda" in my fabulously sparkly clean house and I know that I don't have to do anything until Monday.
