take me down to the water
I say
we can dance to the rhythm of the waves.
let's go down to the ocean
I say
hoping he'll agree.
we stand in this summer swelter
him between headlights
me between two bodies
the atlantic and the paramour
wading through the June heat
mauling at a thick curtain with no opening
muffled guitar howls
streaming from his beat up Toyota
I breathe in the salty air
until I feel it filled up to my throat
looking up at a pearly lunar glow
he meets me down by the water
holds me close
leads the waltz
barefoot and falling in love
we sway and sway
long after the music stops.
