Current Statement

As I headed into thesis, this was my current working statement. I'm sure that as I continue to explore and experiment, the ideas will shift a bit. By proposing that I begin my thesis early, I felt that I needed to layout a basic structure for the show and to give a name to the entities that I was creating. At this point in time, the show is tentatively named Unveiled Pandemonium. I plan on 7-9 large format graphite drawings, as well as projected digital imagery and postcard-sized digital prints.

Unveiled Pandemonium explores self-degradation prompted by the encumbrance of societal definitions of feminine gender roles. Female monuments in stages of undress have been constrained into compositions ranging from a minimally developed interior setting to an absolute physical denial of environment. The scale of the figures, body language and selective use of props augment the psychological disquietude of these women, while the high contrast lighting and purposeful ambiguity of the face represent a spectacle of unveiled pandemonium. Each character consciously or unconsciously embraces the realms of addiction and obsession, including appearance, sexuality, control and power in their misguided attempts to find balance in honoring and sating their own hunger and fullness.
