Westonbirt Arboretum. part one

Oct 15, 2007 10:03

Last Friday was a day off for me. By working my hours the way I do I manage to get a Friday off every other week, which means that I can get out and about a bit more and play photographer when there are not as many people around.

About an hour and a half's drive to the north-east from where I live is Westonbirt Arboretum. It is owned and run by the Forestry Commision and was established over a hundred years ago, which means that there are some big old trees there. At this time of the year it is a popular place to visit. Just for genuine comedy value I should say that the last few villages I drove through before I got there were called (honestly), Old Sodbury, Petty France, Dunkirk and Knockdown. I love place names.

So, here is the first wodge of photos from my day out. I should say that I took well over 300 (almost filled my 1gb flashcard) but have whittled them down.
