Medieval Crafty Help

I have never done any stitching at all, but I did some applique for tabards and the stupid things keep peeing up. I was wondering what the best way is to tag them down... I was thinking blanket stitch but I am not sure how insane that would be on cotton broadcloth... I also have a wool cloak with a similar problem.

Any suggestions? Anyone want to come visit the sicky and teach her to stitch?
