I like Nate and Doc Bryan for shattered idealism (or shattered heavily-buried-under-cynicism-idealism, in Doc Bryan’s case) at the end of the mini-series, which is sort of a depressing thing to like them for, but there we are. I like future fic, after they’re out of the marines corp and trying to adjust to life back in the civilian world and what they went through and did, maybe meeting up again after a while apart. Or fic set before the series, first meetings and getting to know each other. I guess I imagine them having kind of a rough relationship, if you choose to go the relationship route, not all hearts and flowers and fluffy romance (or the marine version thereof) but however you want to write it, or if you want to write them just as friends, or as colleagues, that’s fine too.
Christeson and Stafford are in there because I love their young, slightly more carefree thing, and because I’m kind of obsessed with their relationship with Nate and vice versa, with them at one end of the command scale and him at the other. Do with them as you wish, to be mega-unhelpful.
I prefer stories set in the canon universe, even if they’re wildly outside the show’s timeline, as is probably obvious, but if you want to go the AU route and make them teachers or community centre workers or whatever, be my guest, I’d love to see what you come up with.
