Even if Cam knew before - and John can’t tell, running every conversation they’ve ever had over in his head, he can’t tell - things are different now John’s told him. Shifting

Sweet and bright is just the best description for Cam ever, but John trying to store things up because he's used to having to breaks my heart.

I love John trying to return Cam's sweetness, because yes, Cam really is that sweet. And John being content with so little, being willing to pretend that nothing is there as long as Cam stays in touch...it's just heartbreaking.

This is why I love young John - he's had enough heartbreak to deal with it and push it away, but not enough for it to get routine, or to give up hoping. Every time I write him, I want to write someone giving him a hug and telling him it'll all be okay.

I love that description, of Cam kissing John "sweet and bright". I love John and Cam standing too close together, enjoying the little things even if they don't want to, or can't, risk the bigger things. Seriously, I'm just in awe of the way you write them, so gentle and aching.

John’s ready for it this time, kisses back, trying to put as much sweetness into it as Cam does, because John’s never felt like a sweet person, but Cam sure as hell is.

Cam is sweet, and John is slightly acerbic. Perfect compliments!
