Not so obscure reference, but have you seen that Comcast commercial, with the "Slowski's" (the turtles), where the male turtle settles in with hi pitifully slow DSL connection... yea, the free Internet connection in my hotel room right now is just about as fast. :-P
For real though, I'm visiting the Philadelphia area right now on business. I'm actually in New Jersey, but fairly close to the city, at least not any further than I am from Boston when I'm home. In the past, I've mostly spent my evenings trolling the web from my hotel room when I'm traveling for work, but now I'm trying a new angle. You know... getting out on the town.
Last night, I took a trip to Target and bought some shorts, a t-shirt, and a brandy new pair of Converse One Stars... I didn't pack such things, and I really wanted to go work out in the hotel gym. I spent about an hour and a half between the exercise bike and treadmill, and burnt a whopping 520 calories (I've been trying to get back in shape).
I let my not-so-strict exercise regiment slip tonight. After a light dinner at the Olive Garden, I decided to drop in at a cigar lounge called "Mr Stogies" in Morrisville, PA, which is just outside of Trenton, NJ and Philly, PA. I tried a new cigar, "Nicaro", torpedo shape, probably a size 50-ish ring gauge. It was decently smooth, and as the staff promised, "creamy". I followed this up with a Cohiba Extra Vigoroso, which was also magnificent. While relaxing in a nice leather chair, in the company of four or five other gents, I just vegged out and watch a Rich Prior stand-up show, followed by a some what new movie. All in all I was there for about two and a half hours, leaving around 11 PM and feeling very relaxed. There wasn't much chatting among the guys, so the atmosphere lent itself well to my slow-to-warm-up-to-strangers personality. I might visit again before the week is out.
Then again, I really have a hankering to grab a martini at a trendier establishment, but I'm a bit nervous about submersing myself amongst the beautiful people all by myself. Undoubtedly this would violate the comfort zone of y so called slow-to-warm-up-to-strangers personality, but the only way to get over that kind of crap is the "just do it". Those who know me have seen my extroverted side, but when alone or in unknown environments, I'm a bit withdrawn, and soft-spoken.
Perhaps it's time for me to come a bit more out of my "Slowski's" shell.
