(no subject)
so far, i've been in the US for 5 days. it shuold have been 6, but we had some troubles at the beginning of the trip.
we left home just before 8am thursday morning, and got to brisbane airport at 9am. we should have had 2 hours till our flight to sydney. we go to the counter and they tell us the flight is changed to 11.15am. only 15 minutes later. then as time goes by, the flight time continues to change. 11.55am, 12.15pm, and then finally 12.35pm. meaning we wuold arrive in sydney at about 1.50pm.
we get to sydney airport, and then have to catch a shuttle to the international terminal, and run from one side of the aiaport to the other to get to the counter we have to check in at. there is no line so we go straight up. the lady asks if we want to check in, we say yes and give her our stuff. she tells us 'oh, its too late!' AHHHH! there was still another half an hour till the flight actually left, but she told us wwe wouldnt have enough time to go through customs. of course, i get extremely angry and start crying. haha. she tells us she will see what she can do, so she looks on her computer, and then has more bad news. 'the flight tommorow is fully booked, you may have to wait a few days!' i get even more angry, make a huge scene, and embarass my mum. haha. so, somehow, she decides that even though she just told us the next days flight is full, she can fit us in. it isn't for aneother 24 hours thuogh, so ask what we are supossed to do, and what about the hotel in san fran that i have already paid for? she tells us to go the the qantas counter cause thats who caused our flight from brisbane to sydney to be delayed. so we go there, and they tell us 'its not our responsibility - you can find yourself a hotel!' again, i make a bit of a scene, and let them know i will not be doing that and they better pay for everything. we only had two days in san fran to begin with, and not was going ot be one, and i'll be losing money. so after about half an hour of standing around, they book us a hotel in sydney and pay for it, including dinner and breakfast. i was still so angry, but atleast it was better than nothing.
i am really not usually the type to get angry like that, but i just couldn't help it..it just came over me. i always hate when people get angry with people who are working in grcoery stores, and places like that, because i've worked in one, i know how it feels. but after paying so much money and being so excited about this trip, and seeing san francisco for the first time, i couldn't help it.
we came back to the sydney airport the next day and checked in. and as usual i was chosen for the 'random' security check. i tell the guy i get chosen for the 'random' check everytime i fly to the US, or within the US. he tells me that once you have been chosen once, your names get put into a database, and you are more likely to be chosen again. so much for being random!
so we arrive in san fracisco a day later than we were supposed to. we got to our hotel around 1pm, so we atleast had some of the afternoon to start looking around. i love san francisco, it was very cool! we checked out fishermans wharf, and went on a boat cruide thing. although it was too rough for us to get close enough to the golden gate bridge to really see it. we walked around till about 8.30pm, and thats whn it got really cold! of course, we didnt bring warm enough clothes, thinking, it was going to be hot! haha! the enxt day, we went to union square, and did some shopping, and then to chinatown for dinner. i love how it gets dark so late here! we didn't get to bed until abuot midnight.
3.30am, the alarm goes off, we get up, get ready and head off to the airport again. we didn't get to see the bridge, which is was pretty disappointed about. i hope i get the chance to go to san fran again. 1 day was not enough.
now we are in halstad, minnesota, staying with my sister and her host family. its a tiny little town, with 600 people, but its cute. we had to take a 5 hour greyhound bus trip to get here from the minneapolis airport, though. the day we arrived, they were on tornado watch.
yesterday, we went into fargo, north dakota, as thats the closest city. we went to the mall and bought more stuff. oh, how i love shopping, i spend so much money when i'm in the us! haha. i need to buy a second suitcase before we go home!
tonight, we are going to the fargo fair, and on saturday we are going to minneapolis again, to go to the mall of america! so excited! sunday, we fly to chicago for the next part of our trip!
