Gay Marriage?

Feb 17, 2006 19:05

This is being writen in response to a post made by my friend Janina.

In her post she stated her opinion behind Gay Marriage. She has a strong belief in it, and was appauled by New York's decision to keep Gay Marriage illegal.

I, also, am strongly for it. My thinking is this, homosexuality and heterosexuality, even bi- and asexuality for that matter, have only a _SINGLE_ difference to them. Gender. And as proven in other court rulings, differences leading to discrimination are unjust. IE: Emancipation, Women's Sufferage, and Segregation. Sexual Orientation is simply another difference.

The main argument against Gay Marriage is that the Bible supposedly says it's immoral, a sin, something. Thus Christianity is against it. And While I'm well away the majority religion in America is Christianity, I'm also well aware that, in the constitution (and stated DIRECTLY, too. Not some indirect thing like "He who beds down with man will risk fire" or however the Bible's supposed to state it) that the government CANNOT, by law (The Constitution's Supremecy clause), have a state religion, nor can they SUPPORT ONE RELIGION OVER ANOTHER.

It saddens me that people cannot sever their religious beliefs with their belief in human rights.

I suppose, coming down to it, that an idea behind christianity is saving others aswell. So in some, slightly brain-washed asking me, way they think they're helping.

I'm dissappointed that Rights aren't coming more swiftly, but I think...

Scratch that, KNOW that in the coming years, who knows? maybe when my generation are of-age, that this will come up again, and Gay Marriage will be allowed.

Until that time, I will be patient and hopeful.
Because all good things come in time.
