Preventative maintenance

So I went to a PA conference in Corpus Christi with Reba, the other PA. One of the last speakers we saw talked about nutrition. He talked about how we take care of "stuff" but not ourselves. We protect our car with preventative maintenance - oil changes, tire rotations. We protect our money/future with preventative maintenance - investments, retirement. We even protect our clothes - we don't just throw them out in the yard. But when it comes to ourselves, what we feed ourselves, we pick the cheapest Totino's crap pizza, bullshit food we can find. Whatever is easy, whatever is cheap. We drink and smoke and put poisons in our bodies, slowly destroying ourseIves. I just spend almost $1000 on routine maintenance on my car, but don't put the time, money, and effort into myself. Wt control can fix/prevent so many health problems - diabetes, blood pressure, arthritis, cholesterol, cancer even - just by adjusting what we eat. I'm not talking about diet, I'm talking about nutrition. The problem is I don't know where to begin. The speaker didn't give us any answers, just more questions. I've seen the Forks over Knives movie, got inspired and have the book (not that I've read it) but don't really know where to start. A few of my Fibromyalgia patients have changed their diets and had a huge reduction in pain and increased energy, and I'd like to help my other patients, but I don't know a lot of specifics.

So I'm starting at home and starting slow. I don't know if I can completely cut out meat and dairy, or go straight to juicing, but I can start by adding more vegetables, maybe smaller portions of meat, more substitutions. Eventually I'd like to move into completely plant-based diet and make a sausage-cheese-ball type deliciousness completely with veggies and grains. Chris is working now, and especially when he is working in the evening, I can cook whatever I want and do some experimenting. We always said when he had more money we would like to eat healthier. He says he's on board so we'll see how this works! I'm going to the grocery tonight. Wish me luck!
