Tink's weekend!

So Tink came to visit in April and we had pretty much the best time ever.
Thursday Chris picked her up at the airport and took her to Juniors. She thought I had to work all day so I surprised her and showed up about 1pm and the fun began. We had some food and drinks there and then decided on drunken Ikea. Next was her first visit to Spec's and their delicious olive bar. She bought some peppers stuffed with cheese and prosciutto. We had dinner at La Margarita where we got white wings (chicken nuggets wrapped in bacon and deep fried in cayenne), Diablo shrimp (shrimp with serrano pepper and cheese all wrapped in bacon), and an avocado stuffed with chicken and cheese and then deep fried. We went home and drank a bunch of champagne.

Friday we saw some longhorn steer and hit up Round Rock Donuts. She had her first kolache, was hooked, and had to go back for more. Then we went into Austin. We went to Allen's boots to find the boots I've been wanting for months. They didn't have my size but had them at the store in Round Rock. We decided on lunch and went to Frank. It's a hot dog joint! She has something called OMG and Chris and I got a hot dog (or an Artisan sausage as it would be) wrapped in bacon and deep fried, on a bun with pimento cheese on one side and cole slaw on the other. SO good. We were gonna walk around down town but it started to rain so we went out to EZ Corp to see Dad's memorial. Then we went to the Jackalope for some drinks. (BTW Tink - I had sweet tea vodka last night and yes. It tastes like sweet tea.) We were having so much fun that we had to go home and take a nap. We stopped at Allen's in RR and bought my boots and I love them. Dinner that night was at Main Street Grill in Round Rock - and it was AMAZING. Stacy came with us and it was literally the best meal I have ever eaten. Literally. We stepped across the street to Junior's for a cocktail and then called it a night.

Saturday we drove to San Antonio. We went to Christy's house and then we all went down to the River Walk for lunch. The nephews got to know Tink and she taught them all about superheroes. We walked around for a little bit and then hit up the Alamo. The Alamo itself is not very impressive, but the gardens and fish around it are really neat. We walked back to the car and Parker grabbed Tink's hand. He looks up at her and asks "Are you a grown-up?" and she said, "Not really." Cutest thing ever. We went to Willy's, a restaurant place with a sand box, and had margaritas. Tink decided to have an allergic reaction and turned bright red. You know how Tink just HAS to be the center of attention. Everyone was wearing down anyway so Christy gave her an allergy pill and we drove back to RR.

Sunday Tink and I took the doggies to the park. We let them off the leash and Cody and Lucy played in the lake and ran around. It was time to go home but this CRAZY duck blocked the path and wouldn't move. It was black and white with a red thing on his head. He was slowly getting closer and quacking and hissing at us. We had to run around him to get away. Then we met up with an internet friend of Tink's for brunch - Malaka and her husband Richard. We went to Freda's for and that was awesome too. Seafood buffet with crab stuffed avocados, gumbo, crab legs, bread pudding, a carving station, an omelet station, fried shrimps and $10 all-you-can-drink mimosas. Of course, 5 mimosas in, the party is just starting. Malaka stole the plastic flowers and we put them in our hair. We all climbed in their pickup truck and drove to Carlos and Charlies, a beach bar on the lake (I don't know what lake. Travis? Ladybird Lake?). Next stop was the Hula Hut. Then downtown to Sully's where the tequila is on tap. Everything by now is a little fuzzy, but we had to go back to the Hula Hut for Tink's phone and then back to our car.

It was about 9:30 at night, it's dark and we are riding back home in Chris' truck. I'm holding Tink in my arms and feeling so grateful, so lucky to have such an awesome friend.

Chris took her back to the airport the next day and of course, they probably did a whole bunch of awesome stuff without me. Jerks.

tink, chris
