This is the 291st day of the year, with 74 days remaining in 2005.
Fact of the Day: Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is a huge stone temple complex, the best-known ancient monument of Cambodia and the largest religious structure in the world.
The three-storied Asian construction is surrounded by a moat and surmounted by five vast towers which symbolize the five peaks of Mount Mere. It was built in the 12th century AD over a 25-year period as a mausoleum (temple-mountain) by king Suryavarman II.
Angkor Wat is considered to be the highest expression of Khmer classic architecture and sculpture-relief. Angkor was sacked in 1177 and Angkor Wat fell into ruins. The ruins, which were overgrown by jungle, were rediscovered by the French in 1861
