Barring me being an idiot, I'll have a source of income soon. Which is a good thing, because I'm out of money. I had to do something I loathe doing yesterday. You see, my dad taught me that I need to take care of my own shit, that I shouldn't rely on other people to solve my problems for me. However, he's also made it a point to be there for me when, after trying my damnedest, I just can't make it happen. So, because I haven't found a job until now (and I don't start for a couple weeks yet anyway) and outstanding debts haven't been paid, I had to call him and ask to borrow money. Bank of Dad, no interest short-term loan. I'm to start paying him back in November, which is what I'd prefer anyway.
On the upside, my federal loan paperwork is done and filed for income based repayment. Which, since I didn't have a discernible income last year and have been unemployed for the last month and a half means that I won't actually be paying anything on them for a while. BUT, I have the option to, which is good. When you're in forbearance, you can't pay on the loans without driving you out of forbearance. So you can't toss that extra money you have this month at the loans. This means that, if I have an extra supply of money one month, I have the option to toss it at the loans without screwing myself over the next month. I'll probably take care of getting my side mirror replaced on my car first though.
My Sallie Mae loans are another hill of beans. The last time I called I couldn't understand the person I was speaking to. Out-sourced call centers blow. I need to call back to see what I can do about lowering my payments, and about putting my loans with them on forbearance. Since they're private, they aren't elligible for income based repayment. Which means that forbearance is my only option with them. I'm not sure what they'll be able to do about lowering payments since I have three loans with them and one of them appears to be different than the other two. But, I won't find out without calling them either.
Things are looking up. I'm not too thrilled about this job that I'm getting, but I can keep looking while I work to pay the bills.
