Hello.
Yea, I know, it has been a while. I know I’ve missed my yearly birthday post, and a few other annuals. And trust me, they are still coming. However, there is something that really needs to be talked about today, and I’m pretty sure any American reading this knows what it is. This post is unlocked and open. So if you think reading it will help someone else, please pass it on.
Vote.
Tomorrow is that day that comes once a year… and is super important whenever we have a summer Olympics. Tomorrow we make our voice known for who we want as president. I can’t stress enough how important it is that we make our voices heard. How vital every vote is. There are a lot of reasons to vote. Almost as many as there are reasons that people say to not. I’d like to address some of those, as that is the awesome power of blogging.
You should vote because it is your right to. I think that is possibly the most important reason. And in a way, everything else will probably lead back to that point. Right now, the country says you can vote. No one can take that from you under penalty of law. Rights that don’t get used don’t stay around. And in a country that is close to 50% minorities and women who only in the last 80 years got the right to vote, that seems like a right worth defending with its use.
Some people will tell you that it doesn’t matter; that voting doesn’t change anything. The elections are fixed, and we don’t really have a say. Let’s say it was true, just for giggles. I have seen in my experience that it is always harder to ignore someone screaming in your ear than it is someone who is just quiet. A voice heard will influence something. It always does. And I intend to be in the “squeaky wheel” category of people.
Other folks will bring up how little power the president has. That, as a figurehead that comes and goes every 4 solar revolutions, his power has been limited to that of just a face for the United States government. Well, I’d like to borrow a quote from the Nation of Islam guys I used to have to deal with:”Light travels at 299,752,458 miles a second, while sound travels at 340.29 miles a second. So that means I’ll see you before I hear you.” Thus our nation’s “face” will be, in some cases, the first opinion of the new country. So, figurehead or no, this guy is going to make an impression. I personally have had people from other countries randomly contact me on instant messenger talking about what “our“president is doing. This guy will represent us to the masses of the world, weather he has no other power. And that’s power enough to warrant you giving your opinion.
A lot of people are talking about change. And that is true. But there will be change no matter what. Neither candidate is the current president. Each will also try their hardest to move as far from the failures of the previous administration as they feel is necessary. It is a matter of who you believe will make the best changes. If you feel that only minor shifts are needed or maybe more drastic changes are in order, this is the time to try to put the one that represents the most of your opinions in the government.
This is the chance where we average Joe’s (and I don’t mean that gorram plumber. From this point on, if they ain't form Brooklyn, have Italian accents, and ramble about mushrooms and princesses, I don’t wanna hear about any plumbers.) get to make an effort to be heard, and to let that voice change things. This election has already changed the way we will look at presidential candidates from this moment on. Don’t stop now. Do the next part. Make all those billions of dollars they spent count. Do it for your right to bitch. Do it because you believe in something. Do it because your children cant, is it’s your job to protect them. I don’t care what your reasons are, but do it.
Go on. Get out there tomorrow.
No excuses. Do the deed.
Vote.
And be part of the masses as we make history…like we do every 4 years.
Bluewind out....
