On Friday night/Saturday morning, we went to the half-past midnight showing of the final Harry Potter movie. These are my thoughts and reactions, chock full o' spoilers and gratuitous italics...
There are a couple italicized words here and there, but my use of them was apparently less gratuitous than it seemed at the time ;)
James and Sirius being a dick to Snape was in both this book and Order of the Phoenix. I don't recall if they showed that scene in the OotP movie (it's been ages since I watched that one), but if they did, then that's probably why they didn't include it in this one? Also, in the DH book, Harry sort of sees that memory from afar but doesn't follow it because he already knows what happens and is super uncomfortable with it. More of Snape's memories would have been good, especially to show he and Lily growing apart as he became more involved with the dark arts and the Death Eaters. But again, I know they couldn't do everything, and the scenes they did were amazing. Those were my favorite parts of the movie too.
I agree, both DH the book and the movie are all about motherly love, as is a good portion of the whole series. I kind of liked that the DH movie made Lucius just as concerned for Draco as Narcissa was, so it wasn't all about just the mother. And if I wasn't clear about this, I'm totally in favor of Harry confirming to Narcissa that Draco was alive; I just prefered the more definitive "yes" from the book to the barely perceptible nod. But it's fine either way.
I think the movies have always made Draco more of a coward than the books did. I don't think he was ever as brave as he'd have people believe, but the movies have overdone it a bit, as they have with Ron. I got annoyed in the first couple of movies that Ron was always the comic relief/bitch - he is a Gryffindor, after all - but Rupert Grint just makes such fabulous scared faces that I guess they couldn't help themselves ;)
You know, I never thought about this till just now, but Ron in the early movies was a lot like Xander in seasons 3 and 4...
