July is going by in scary fast-forward. On the one hand, every day that gets us closer to the end of summer and this miserable heat is good in my book. Oh, thank you for reviewing this book. I'd seen it around, and had not picked it up because I was rather afraid that I would get driven bats by the warping of my beloved Ancient Egypt. What you have to say about the setting and the use of the Egyptian gods makes it clear that it is more in the category of "homage to" and less in the category of "teaching about" so I think I will try it.

Yes, these books are definitely not trying to teach about mythology; they're a humorous homage, but not in a way that mocks mythology. They're super aweome and clever and fun. I was chatting with a librarian about the Percy Jackson books once, and she says that every time a kid gets dragged in by their parents with no interest in reading, she recommends these books, and the kids pretty much always come back for the next one, which made me very happy :)

I think you'll enjoy it, and I can't wait to have someone to chat about the SG-1 parallels!
