Reasons #75864 & #75865 I'm not going to Bonneroo this year...

I live in the Pacific Northwest, and I'm broke... [technically, that was two, but:]

Dear Kanye,

I regretfully will not be able to see you embarrass yourself in TN this year. While the sadist in me would like nothing more to see you blown off the stage when set up against the likes of musicians B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, Robert Randolph, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, etc, not to mention your own superior contemporaries like Talib Kweli, I would also not care to reinforce the direction the Bonneroo festival is going in. Pearl Jam I can live with, but you and MetallicaV2.0? I just couldn't stand by and let that pass. I hope you understand. Although I'm sure you will try and glom onto some of the talent by "sitting in" with them. I mean, that's what you do, Kanye, and I personally respect that kind of blatant cry for attention.

Please realize that the drunken hicks like myself that attend such festivals would love to see your ego splattered all over the lawn with our five dollar beers. We are intelligent music lovers, connoisseurs, if you will, who can appreciate the hard work and fine effort of selling out, and applaud you for it. Your tactics are not unique, but the overbearing style you bring to them is certainly an accomplishment in itself. Staying in the closet to sell more records is a brilliant business strategy which will endear you heartily to the sexually liberated and inhibited alike. I'm sure your musicianship and skill will be thoroughly exhibited during your spectacle of a performance and would have left all of us shaking our heads at your sheer greatness... Unfortunately, I just couldn't bring myself to make the ultimate sacrifice, so, you'll have to do without me. Until next time, your partner in capitalism,

-Charlie Marx

p.s. I'm really pissed, Two Gallants is going to be there, too... of all the years to live 2500 miles away...
