It was bad enough, that feeling of foreboding in the pit of my stomach. As soon as I heard that Tim Burton was going
to be doing a remake of Dark Shadows, I was worried. I had that, oh no, not him, not Johnny Depp, not again, not that,
feeling.
I have just seen the trailer.
It's even worse than I thought. Not only is he doing a remake, but it is a tongue in cheek comedy version of the original
story.
Of course Johnny Depp is in it. Johnny Depp the living action figure that Tim Burton wished he could've been.
Of course Tim Burton's scary wife, Helena Bonham Carter is in it. Once the darling
of Merchant Ivory period films, now one of Tim Burton's toys in the mental asylum dollhouse of his own unoriginal, tired imagination.
This Dark Shadows is supposed to be funny.
Remember Beetlejuice? That was funny.
Remember Batman? That was good.
Remember Nightmare Before Christmas? That was imaginative.
Remember Corpse Bride? No? Neither do I
You ever dance with the Devil in the pale moonlight?
I think Tim Burton fell out of step in that pas de deux long ago.
Wow.
