this post is inspired by zara. how she posts conversations. this is one i had today. let me set up the scene.

i'm sweeping outside the gate to the park i work in. hanging around on the side walk sweeping up litter into my dust pan. it is hot but i am in the shade of a tree. courtesy of NYc Parks. a little boy and his father walk up to pass by and go into the park.

boy : watcha doin ?
me : sweeping up the park so it looks nice and clean.
boy: i'm gonna go into the sprinklers.
me: oh that sounds nice. have fun in the sprinklers.
boy : ok, have fun sweeping.

i love that he was genuine when he wished me to enjoy such a mundane task as sweeping. anyone i know would have meant it sarcastically. i had to smile. and thus cleaning was actually fun. that kid is on to something. something i've known. i hate that being older, i've come to expect sarcastic and clever remarks from people. even from myself at times. leave me the child. i wonder what a baby's dreams are like.
