So, I'm a little confused. Does Dean have cochlear implants, or is just hard of hearing and uses hearing aids? My college has a big deaf community, being right next door to the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, so I'm just curious

Dean's completely deaf - and doesn't have cochlear implants.

I don't read much that isn't Dean/Cas and this seems to be Gen, but I found myself completely enthralled after just a few hundred words.
I'm just a bit confused about a few things. I mean, I get that subtlety isn't Castiel's strong suit, but I was surprised that he mentioned dimensional travel and the Apocalypse to a seemingly non-hunting Dean.
And then there's Gabriel mentioning talking to Dean on the phone; now I don't know anyone who's deaf, but that seemed somewhat physically improbable? Or it would be a one-sided conversation. I dunno.
Other than that it's a really cool story so far. The beginning reminded me of video games where you wake up in a stranger's house before embarking on your adventure. :3

There are phones for the deaf - and video phone capabilities on a lot of cell phones.
