I have been reading a number of various stories, essays and other numerous writings that have continually brought up the theme/idea that connections to others are the only things that stop us (humans, apparently) from turning evil.
What utter rot and poppycock.
First of all, it is ourselves that are ultimately responsible for our directions. Either to the good or to the bad. Second, it is often our connections to people that can influence us in either direction.
But my main objection to this idea is that, personally speaking, I tend to be a better person when left alone, when my connections are, at best, tenuous. Partly, of course, through necessity. When I have more connections I tend toward being far more bloody minded, regardless of the type of person I am connected to.
According to these other authors I must be evil.
Then again...I do read.
Books grant knowledge, Knowledge is power, Power corrupts...Study hard, be evil.
Guess it's time to practice the evil laugh, huh?
