Tomorrow is Thanksgiving here in the states and I've been thinking about what I am thankful for. So far, I've come up with rather a lot more than I first thought I would...
I am thankful for my family...they drive me crazy and sometimes I feel as if I really don't belong but I know that they'll be there for me if I really needed them to be.
I am thankful for my friends...they like me for who and what I am. I can laugh with them, joke with them, argue with them and know at the end of the day they have my back.
I am thankful for my country...there are many things about my country that I do not like and want changed but I am grateful that I live in a place where I have the power to change them and, perhaps more importantly, the right to challenge them. This is sometimes offset by other people haveing the same power but, ultimately, I think that's pretty cool.
I am thankful that I have a roof over my head, clothes on my back and food for me to eat...I realize that not everyone has those things and I am happy and fortunate that I do.
I am thankful for the skills and abilities that I was not only born with but have cultivated or been cultivated in me. Not the least of which are the abilities to wonder, reason and read. The last of those I am most grateful for. What that ability means to me...few would ever be able to really know.
I am thankful for all of the forces and people who have influenced me throughout my life, both for good and for ill. They have helped to create the person that I am today - a person that I like and respect, love and admire. A person that continuously fills me with a sense of profound wonder.
I am thankful that I am finally at a place in my life that I can wonder at myself, like myself and love myself. It has taken me a long time to feel that way and I am thankful for both the journey and the destination, even if this destination is only a brief stop on a greater journey.
I am thankful for this world and this universe and I am thankful for all of the other worlds and universes that exist out there. I am thankful for what I know and I am thankful for all of the things that I do not know. I am thankful for what I believe and for what I don't believe. I am thankful for everything.
I am thankful.
