Thanks for the wonderful comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it, and that it seems realistic. I'm also relieved so far everyone seems ok with my portrayal of Becky and her relationship with Zane. This is only my second fanfiction ever and my first attempt at writing in almost ten years, so the encouragement I've been getting has been fantastically reassuring. :)
I thought "Stars & Stripes" would show us why Zane was so estranged from his family, but it didn't really. We saw that his mother was cold and manipulative, but that's all.
In "Cut & Run" Zane tells Ty that for five years *nobody* cared about him. He honestly believed that no one, including his parents and sister, cared what happened to him. That's huge. Nothing we saw of Harrison or Annie could explain why he felt that way.
I just felt the need to explain his behavior/mindset. He really was emotionally abused by his mother, if her behavior in Stars and Stripes is the way she treated him as a child. I kind of know what it's like from my experience with my own mother. At least I had a very loving, affectionate father, where Zane had an aloof one. I think Harrison was trying not to push Zane, but to Zane it felt like indifference.
Thanks again for reading and commenting. <3
BTW, what's your tumblr name, if you don't mind telliing me? (I assume your from tumblr) Thx
Yeah, everything feels so accurate in this piece. In my opinion, you really got inside these characters' heads, and that was a good explanation for why Harrison might have acted the way that he did. I think that's what's so great about fanfic - you can imagine different characters' motivations and explore them.
It's hard to believe this is only your second time trying your hand at fanfic! That's very impressive.
