I find The Prince to be laugh-out-loud funny, too, especially in comparison to a lot of political philosophy texts--and yes, refreshingly honest is exactly it. He's unapologetic about his aims, and he's very clear-eyed about what people do and for what reasons. That's a lovely contrast to, say, Rousseau, who is interesting and of course extremely intelligent, but laughably deluded when it comes to "the state of nature."

The ankle's much better, thank you. The pain left as thoroughly and inexplicably as it came. I've no idea what the problem was, but I'm very glad it's gone.

So, questions:

1. If Amortentia is meant to smell of your very favorite things, then what would yours smell like?

2. Horrible as the thought is, pretend that you must give up all of your books except for five of them. Which five make the cut?

3. You are granted the ability to inhabit one fictional universe (of any kind--book, film, television) for one week. Which one do you choose and what would you do there?

4. You're having a Potterverse dinner party. Which six characters do you invite and why?

5. Which one charm, spell or magical device do you wish were real?

I think so. But who could have a grudge already?
