~happy sigh~

The semester is over, and not a moment too soon. For that reason alone, I'm in a very good mood.

Over the next few days, I will finally have the time to decorate for the holidays, write Christmas cards and do various other seasonal things. I have finalized my baking list for the season, shopped for provisions and organized a plan of attack over the next week. (Monday: Dipped Gingersnaps and Brandied Cherry Loaves, Tuesday: Chocolate Toffee Bars and Pistachio Macaroons...) I might do a bit of baking blogging if the mood strikes.

I have yet to start Christmas shopping, which is... well, yes, it's very bad. Not insurmountable, though, particularly considering that I can always hand over a pretty tin of cookies to cover any gaps. I do need to pick up some things for my godchildren, though god knows what you can buy these days that isn't filled with lead or GHB or some other outrageously toxic material. Clothing and books it is, then!

I now also have time to catch up on the umpteen wonderful fic fest stories out there, as well as the time to work on my own stuff. I'm enjoying a blaze of outrageous creativity at the moment--probably brought on from sheer relief, but in any case, I'm getting a lot of writing done, including some Christmas presents. ;-) 'Tis good. I'm also starting on a pile of books that I'd actually like to read; top of the pile is Margaret Atwood's Penelopiad. Any recommendations?

I went shopping with my mother today, so that she could pick up some nice things for her graduation tomorrow. The shops were quite hellish, though, filled with idiots standing and gaping in the middle of the aisleways, blocking traffic. The lines were ridiculously long, and I was treated to the aural delight of quite possibly the worst rendition of "Baby, It's Cold Outside" ever recorded.

Also, can any of you explain to me the appeal of wearing Santa Claus-themed lingerie? Why would I want a teddy with a belt buckle like Old Saint Nick? I don't understand. There was some variation on this in every department store, and every time I see it, all I can do is laugh and laugh and laugh.

Other than that excursion, I deliciously squandered the day watching the snow pile up, sipping hot cocoa and thinking about nothing more strenuous than which story I'd like to work on first. Ahh, bliss.

holidays, real life
