Terrific Tunes

May 19, 2011 14:29

There will be a real update later, but in the meantime, here's a meme and some tasty beats to enjoy!

The rules:

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5 11 12 songs you love that begin with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.

pokeystar gave me the letter T, and then I agonized about whittling the list... and then I just went ahead and added more. *g*

Every single one of these is in my music collection. Who knew I had so many T songs?

1. Take Me to the River - Talking Heads It's David Byrne. It's a groovy bass. It's Talking Heads. What more could you possibly want?

2. Telegram Sam - T. Rex I can never listen to this song without wanting to dance. And I will forever and always love the bit where Marc Bolan sings that he ain't no square, with his corkscrew hair. :D

3. There Is A Light That Never Goes Out - The Smiths Only Morrissey could sing a sweet and tender love song about getting hit by double-decker buses and trucks, no? The chorus is justly famous, but it's the verses that make me smile, talking about a love so big that it's as frightening as it is amazing.

4. Take Aim - Kasabian I often think that Kasabian's music sounds like what Quentin Tarantino's work would sound like if it were turned into music... which is probably a very strange way to think about things. *g* But it has that same dark, slightly seedy, effortlessly cool, stylish, swaggery sound--with just a hint of the spaghetti Western. This is a song for walking around like a badass, wearing your dark sunglasses.

5. Trusted - Ben Folds As always, Ben's piano work is amazing, but it's the sharp and insightful lyrics that make this one a killer.

6. Trampled Underfoot - Led Zeppelin This song virtually demands that you strut like Mick Jagger when you hear it, despite the fact that it's pure Led Zeppelin genius. Maybe that's because the groove is particularly well-suited to the Jagger strut. Or maybe it's because the song itself is pure sex. *g* Either way, happy strutting!

7. Try a Little Tenderness - Three Dog Night No, this isn't the original. But I like Three Dog Night, and I like this version, and I love way it builds to the funky breakdown at the end. I saw Three Dog Night in concert years ago, and this song was definitely one of the highlights of the show.

8. Train in Vain - The Clash The Clash. Brilliant lyrics. And despite the subject matter, listening to it always makes me strangely cheerful. Must be the harmonica!

9. Too Much Love Will Kill You - Queen This isn't my very favorite Queen song, but that's like saying, "This isn't my favorite delicious chocolate truffle." How can anybody not love Freddie Mercury, I ask you?

10. Tombe La Neige - Salvatore Adamo If this seems different to everything else on this list... well, it is. *g* But I've loved this song from the first time I heard it, and I'm not going to stop now. Even if you don't understand the lyrics, you've got to love the delivery and the melancholy music itself.

11. Two of Us - The Beatles Has to be one of the best songs about friendship ever written, all without being sappy or saccharine. I must also admit that, since I've gotten in the Mighty Boosh fandom, I can't hear this song without thinking of Howard and Vince, because... yes.

12. Tundra Rap - The Mighty Boosh Yes, the BBC lists it as "Ice Flow Song" here, but fans know and love this song as the Tundra Rap. And it will never, ever fail to make me grin. Massively. :D

I love these music memes. They're a wonderful excuse to listen to great music and revisit favorite tracks. :D
