My sinuses are being temperamental, and the pharmacy is, unthinkably, completely out of Sudafed and its equivalents. But despite that, it was really quite a good day, and here are a few of the highlights... oddly, most of them connected to baking. No idea why. *g*
Positive Things, Day 8:
*Out of the blue, I received an e-mail from one of my mother's coworkers. Now, I have made cookies for her to take in to her department before, so they know I'm a baker. This coworker, as it happens, is planning a bridal shower, and after saying some extremely flattering things about my baking, she asked me if I would be interested in providing a selection of cookies for the shower. For which I would be paid a surprising amount of money.
Given that the quantities seem manageable and I have enough notice, and I can always press-gang family and friends into serving as helper elves when it comes to the crunch... I think I'm going to take the offer. I feel a slight frisson of anxiety, simply because I've never done this for money before... but it's really exciting and flattering, too. Definitely a positive development. :D
*I am also spending this evening baking up a storm, both to fulfill my bingo prize and because I was volunteered to bake for another fundraiser. I suppose I could choose to be irked that my help was taken for granted in the latter case, but I choose instead to be flattered that they thought my cookies would raise good money for a good cause. And besides, I have the opportunity to bake for the first time in months, which is a pleasure. I've missed it.
*Lots of people think that baking is a fussy and precise art, and they're right... but today I'm reminded that there's also a really delightful aspect of it that involves beating the hell out of random things, grinding them to a powder, pummeling them into shape--bursts of controlled chaos. It's a marvelous and satisfying stress release, and you get to create something at the same time. How cool is that? :D
*Coincidental to this burst of baking, Best Friend sent me to
this site, which provides aprons with flair--right up my alley. There are so many cool choices, but I ordered myself
this one, which is as glam as I could have hoped and on sale to boot. I can't wait to wear it!
*Just talked to Younger Brother on the phone, and it seems he has his first orchestral gig outside of University-affiliated ensembles! He's going to be joining a municipal orchestra for several performances, as a mallet percussionist. He's incredibly excited, and I'm really, really proud of him.
