Yes, the furnace guy is on his way, so I am grateful for that. If it had been yesterday... well, I'd be at my parents' house. That's that!
Dad brought over a space heater, so there's that. We're making sure the pipes don't freeze, and although it's unmercifully cold outside, there is a lot of sunshine, so that seems to have stabilized some of the heat loss.
Oh, and I'm baking up a storm. Hot oven = good thing!

Oh man, that sucks! We had our furnace go out during last winter. It's not fun.
Have you checked circuit breakers? The other good place to check is there is a little plug that you can open. It keeps the air from being pulled in from the inside (which is less efficient) but makes a good override if something is blocking the air intake outside (like frozen water or something.

Oh, that link rocks! What a great idea. I'm going to take a look at it. Thank your friend for me, and thanks to you for the link!
Circuit breakers are good, so that isn't it, and the air intake is clear, but Dad is rapidly narrowing down the possibilities. If he can fix it first, I'm canceling the service call. I'll keep everybody updated!
In the meantime, I'm making pecan pie and caramel apple loaves. The hot oven is a good thing!
No, no fun at all! I definitely had something more fun planned for today, although I do have an excuse to keep baking things, because the warm oven is making the kitchen less Arctic.
Dad is poking around the furnace now. Mind you, his degree is in finance and not engineering, so he's not exactly Mr. Fix-It, but he knows more than I do and is narrowing it down. ~crosses fingers~
I know! Is it terrible of me to admit that I'd be even more distressed at the loss of internet signal? That would be like a complete repeat of 2009's beginning.
And yes, I'm grateful this is the day after and not New Year's itself. That would NOT be good.
Poor Bluey! Please don't live up to your name! This happened to us in January two years ago. Turn on the oven and keep it open. Turn on all the lights, especially regular light bulbs as they act like little heaters. There are some good space heaters available out there pretty cheap. They can help you keep at least one room at a livable temperature.

I'm trying not to literally be Bluey. *g* There's a lot of sun today, which is helping. Dad thinks he's located the problem, so we headed out to Lowe's and now he's working on it. Fingers crossed that he fixes it before the furnace guy shows up!
Those are excellent hints, and I'm making use of them. The oven is still going, and I'm baking like a fiend. It keeps things bearably warm.
