1. Independence Day was lovely and went off without a hitch, despite my developing a nasty, nasty headache just as the evening was winding down. The food was a hit, and I managed to satisfy the vegetarians, the traditionalists for whom even blue corn chips are too adventurous, and the one overly-enthusiastic foodie who had been pressing me to ( Read more... )

I know what you mean about the dreams. The ones I hate are the ones in which I dream of paying bills. Then I think I've actually already done it. *facepalm*

Your Rowena costume is going to be lovely! Can't wait to see pics.

And yes, #8 is definitely awesome. {{hugs}}

Ah, so you have these dreams, too? Yes, I've also dreamed about paying bills... and grading papers. It's kind of disappointing to wake up and realize that I haven't done that yet.

There will definitely be pics! And postcards, too. ~hugs~

And I'm really, really happy about Number 8. That just about made my week. :-)

If you haven't checked out [info]awwol yet, you have no idea what you're missing!

I meant to check that out a while ago when I saw it mentioned and forgot where I saw the link. Thank you for mentioning it. It's fabulous.

I'm so pleased about your dad, too.

Oh, great! I'm glad the link was useful. It's a great concept for a story, isn't it?

I'm really proud of the way Dad's handled himself. I was worried that he wouldn't be able to deal with the aftermath of his accident, but he's coped with a lot more grace and dignity than I think I could muster. It's inspiring to me.

Aha, Partridge Creek. The last time I was there, I got a dirty look from a fellow patron while trying on shoes at Nordstrom. Maybe I wasn't dressed appropriately for the occasion? *Shrug* At least they have a Sur La Table and a Godiva store.
Where did you get carded? I don't buy alcohol often, but I'm waiting for the day when I don't get carded. I suppose that's the problem with being 26 and looking 16. I'm not trying to brag, either, it's a bit of a headache when people think I'm still in high school.

Hah! Yeah, that sounds like the right brand of snobbery. You know, I like Partridge Creek; it's just the people who frequent it that drive me nuts. They're so... um, completely oblivious to reality. And judgmental. (But it isn't as pretentious as Somerset, so that's something.)

I got carded at Roger's Roost! And yes, I know what you mean about waiting for it to be over. At a certain point, you're thinking, "Are we not over this yet?" You know you're an adult, and the amount of life experience you have, but other people still apparently think you look like a kid. And yes, while sometimes it's a boost to your ego, there are other times when it's just a pain in the ass. (Like when I'm trying to get people--especially students--to respect me.)

The last time I was at Somerset, I was struck by a feeling of obscenity, not because the place is actually obscene, but because of the fact that there were still vain, selfish people willing to pay boutique prices in the middle of a recession.
I dunno, I discovered that between watching people at the Somerset Collection, and watching people at a Wal-Mart up north, watching people at Wally word is more interesting and entertaining.
