Friday
Got off work, drove to Lubbock. Took an alternate route (380 to Post, then 84 to Lubbock, then 114 to Levelland) in order to avoid state troopers, most specifically in Olney, where I get pulled over twice each time I drive though the county with anything wrong with my car). Got into Lubbock close to midnight, tried to have conversation with Mom and Lee, but failed because I was stupid tired.

Saturday
Got a new phone--now I can send text message in addition to being able to receive them, or at least I will once I figure out my phone well enough to be able to type them in correcly...right now it enters gibberish. Went with my mom and sis to get Alison contacts so she won't have avocado on her spectacles at work. Met up with facebite and his lovely lady at Light Bite and ate calzones. Went shopping for work clothes (which I found) and a new bag (which I didn't find). Bought books. Went back to Levelland with my mom to recharge and drink wine while my sister drove around Lubbock some more. Ate dinner with the fam, then back to Lubbock to meet up at Bash's with schwarzbrille who is leaving for NYC on Wednesday (color me jealous!) and jasonrhode, whom I hadn't seen in ages and ages. Smoked too much. Stayed out waaay later than I'd intentioned, drove back cursing the fact that Levelland is so far from Lubbock, especially at 2:30 in the morning.

Sunday
Poked around the house, ate lunch, looked at photos from Mom and Lee's vacation (they went from West Texas to Natchez Mississippi, to Philedelphia to DC to Baltimore to Tennesee in the span of two weeks), went to Walmart, put windshield wipers on my car, went to Ralph's Records to see if Alison could get the new Thriftstore Cowboys CD (they didn't have it), drove back to Denton, drank wine.

I didn't get Taco Villa (just didn't have time) but as we were driving out, I got to experience that quintessentialLubbock phenomena of how the tar on the streets liquefies when it gets hot enough. You drive on it and it makes a delightful peeling sound. Seriously, though, I think the sun burns hotter in West Texas.

lubbock, family, friends
