(no subject)

Today is the first day of me no longer smoking...so far, so good...no headache like I was concerned about getting (two extra-strength Tylenol consumed before heading to work as a preventive measure, which might prove doubley handy because our sink is broken at my job and there is no coffee). Basically, all I'm really missing is an excuse to go downstairs for a moment, as well as the light but short-lived buzz from smoking a cigarette. Blah.

I'm so broke for the next couple of weeks. After that, I'll find my financial situation stabilizing a bit, I think, and I'll even be able to start paying my mom back and saving some money. But right now, especially after some financial irresponsibilities as well as the expense of moving and buying all those things I inevitably find myself needing (eg. pillows and non-warped cutting boards) I am broke. And I should stop going out so much to drink...

Saturday was the family reunion. I dragged myself out of bed at 6:45 am, picked up my sister, and proceeded to go on a wild goose chase for American Spirits for my sis (she doesn't like regular cigarettes). Took us 3 stops. We also went to Ravelin, but because we were so early, they didn't have most of their croissants done (though they did have the ham and cheddar ones fresh out of the oven). Alison got a cinnamon roll that was so sugary it made my teeth hurt. We picked up a chocolate muffin in lieu of a chocolate croissant for my mother, as well as a palmier, and an apple tart for my grandmother.

After an uneventful drive we got to the Family Reunion (at the civic center in La Rue). Not much of anything needed to be done, so we mostly stood around and talked to my mom and immediate family. The food was actually rather dissapointing...maybe I've spent too much time reading Gourmet and watching Alton Brown, but for some reason the idea of mushy veggies cooked with bacon and/or sugar no longer sounds appealing. Among the gems: butter beans with sugar, mushed-up cabbage with sugar, green beans with bacon and cabbage, and the crowing glory--home grown squash cooked up, mushed up, and flavored with sugar and bacon. Le sigh... (Though my cousin made a pesto orzo salad that was good, and my mom and Aunt Janice both brought brisket, which was fantastic, and someone had brought home grown tomatoes, sliced up and with nothing on them). We milled about some more before helping my mom clean up and then heading back to Denton. I non-napped for a moment before heading out to Lou's for drinking for my sis's birthday since her birthday hits in the middle of the week and we'll be in Lubbock next weekend. I'd totally forgotten about the Mav's game, but we still managed to get people to come out and drink with us--brokennotbeaten came down from Dallas and it was good to see him.

Sunday, I got coffee with Zack, went to the grocery store and bought food, made breakfast, went back to Jupiter House with Kat to drink some more coffee and bumped into Flanagan and a random older guy that talked about human/dog psychology, then went to Barnes and Noble with Kat (after a failed attempt to go to Target--I need to buy body soap and toilet paper, but when we drove past Target, the parking lot was empty except for the employee cars and there were several fire trucks but no ambulance or police cars in front, as well as a few managers milling about--needless to say, I decided my TP and soap could wait another day). There aren't any books out anytime soon that are grabbing my interest. Alison had a migraine, so I went and picked her up from the Cupboard and Kat and I then went and ate at Quick Stir, the new Chinese place at Jago and Scripture. It's owned by the same people who own Chopsticks, and tastes a lot like what Chopsticks would taste like if it was a generic Chinese food restaurant. I went home for a little bit before heading to Lou's to drink Margaritas with Dylan. I ate dinner (leftover brisket + my awesome potato salad) before fighting with Second Life--and failing...I couldn't remember how to teleport in the game...while it's fun and interesting, I can see how the navigation in the game could turn off some users--reading, and falling asleep around 9:30 or 10.

food, family, friends
